Two ways to open a thing — this is the one that pretends not to be one.
There are two ways to open. The big hook, or the small not-quite-opening that pretends not to be one. This is the second.
What I want to record isn’t the big decisions — those leave scars, you remember them. It’s the small ones, where I had two equally OK options and shipped the one that fit that morning. Years from now this thing I’m making will mostly be those, and I won’t remember a single one.
So. Some of them, here, before they go.
Mad Men did a trick where every season opens on something small — a glass on a table, a hand on a knee — and you only realize later it was the whole season’s point. Commit messages do the same. You write them small because you don’t know yet what they’re about.
